Bernie Clark Yin Yoga profile

Bernie Clark

Bernie has been teaching yoga and meditation since 1998. He has a bachelor degree in Science from the University of Waterloo and combines his intense interest in yoga with an understanding of the scientific approach to investigating the nature of things. His ongoing studies have taken him deeply inside mythology, comparative religions and psychology. All of these avenues of exploration have clarified his understanding of the ancient Eastern practices of yoga and meditation. His teaching, workshops and books have helped many students broaden their own understanding of health, life and the source of true joy.

Bernie’s yoga practice encompasses the hard, yang-styles, such as Ashtanga and Power Yoga, and the softer, yin-styles, as exemplified in Yin Yoga. His meditation experience goes back to the early 80’s when he first began to explore the practice of Zen meditation. During those days, while he struggled with the conflict between practice and theory, Bernie also worked as a member of the executive team of one of Canada’s oldest and largest Hi-Technology companies.

Diana Batts

Diana Batts

Diana has been practicing yoga since the late 1980’s and teaching since 2003. She discovered Yin Yoga through her friend Bernie Clark and took his first teacher training in 2004. Since then she has studied with other Yin Yoga teachers including Sarah Powers and Paul Grilley. She is inspired by the yoga of B.K.S. Iyengar. Her style is a quiet meditative practice with variations and the use of props to meet the needs of each student and his or her unique body. Since 2005, Diana has assisted Bernie in his Yin Yoga teacher training courses.

FAQs About 50-Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training

Is this training specifically for yoga teachers?

No! While the intention of this training is to allow yoga teachers to add yin yoga to their repertoires (and if you are not yet a yoga teacher, this training will not certify you as one; you will still need to take a 200-hour training if you’d like to teach), many yoga students have taken it, not to become teachers, but to deepen their own personal practices. Anyone who has a thirst to learn can benefit from this training.

Can I get CEUs for Yoga Alliance?

Yes, currently Yoga Alliance is accepting all continuing education completed online. This includes both contact and non-contact hours. In order to receive continuing education hours for the training, you will need to complete all sessions.

Is there required reading?

The required text for this training is “The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga” by Bernie Clark. It is up to you to acquire this text either in hard copy or as an eBook before the training begins. Optional, though recommended books are “Your Body, Your Yoga” and “Your Spine, Your Yoga”.
