Translate the language of the nervous system.

As a yoga professional, you know that the “quiet mind” we seek on the mat often battles the chaotic reality of modern life. But how do we bridge that gap for ourselves and our students?

This 4-Part Series is designed to help you understand the mechanics of dysregulation and the tools and techniques we have to address it. By integrating modern psychology with the frameworks of Ayurveda and Yoga Science, this series provides a roadmap to move from reactivity to resilience.

Why this Program?

We don’t just “think” ourselves into balance; we practice our way there. This series offers a comprehensive framework for understanding how unprocessed memories, genetics, and the environment impact our biology.

In each of the four sessions, you will experience:

  1. Lecture: Deep dive into the explanation and application of polyvagal theory, which underpins many modern psychological interventions. Understand how Ayurveda’s Dosha System and Yoga’s Gunas can inform how we work with our nervous system and tone the vagus nerve.
  2. Practice: Somatic, breath-based, yogic and ayurvedic tools that bring the theory to life immediately.
  3. Homework: Integration exercises and journaling to bridge the gap between the workshop and your daily life (or your teaching).

The Curriculum: A 4-Week Journey

May 7: The Nervous System & The Vagal Nerve
Discover how we become dysregulated. Cultivate a biological understanding of how chronic stress and trauma impact the HPA axis and sleep. Learn to identify nervous system states through a somatic awareness meditation.

May 14: The Ayurvedic View of Imbalance
Uncover how Vata, Pitta, and Kapha (the Doshas) shape emotional reactions. Learn how these three biological constitutions influence your physical body and your vagal response. Practice how you can adapt asana practice for different nervous system states, and different doshas.

May 21: The Gunas & The Yoga Model of Mind
Explore how thoughts, beliefs, and interpretations create our reality… and sometimes get the story wrong. Understand how the story we tell ourselves impacts our regulation and changes our mental constitution (the Gunas), and how cognitive distortions trigger the biological reactions that keep us dysregulated. Practice pranayama for different nervous system states.

May 28: The Regulation Triangle
The final integration: “The Regulation Triangle”. Learn to use the feedback loop between the Body (Doshas), Mind (Gunas), and Nervous System to create lasting behavioral change and resilience. Participate in a ~30 minute complete practice for regulation.

The Regulation Triangle

If we want to change our mental patterns, we must include our bodies. If we want lasting change, we must include our behavior.

The core of this program is the Regulation Triangle. This model explains how emotional patterns develop and—more importantly—how we can use daily actions informed by Ayruveda and Yoga Science to mitigate imbalances.

By the end of this series, you will have a complete “Toolbox for Regulation” to:

  • Identify dysregulation before it becomes burnout.
  • Tailor practices based on constitutional (Dosha) tendencies.
  • Clarify mental messages to inform mental states (Gunas), and stop the cycle of reactivity.
  • Support your students and clients with a trauma-informed, scientifically-backed approach.

Why Study with Kathryn Templeton?

When you study Applied Polyvagal Theory with Kathryn, you aren’t just learning from a textbook; you are learning from three decades of clinical experience. While many can explain the theory of the nervous system, Kathryn has spent thirty years in the therapist’s chair, witnessing firsthand how these biological shifts manifest in real people. She has moved beyond the academic “why” into the practical “how,” refining techniques that bridge the gap between complex trauma research and the lived experience of everyday individuals.

By joining this series, you gain access to a unique perspective that integrates clinical psychology, Ayurveda, and Yoga into a methodology that you can apply. Kathryn’s approach is deeply grounded in the reality of human struggle—specializing in anxiety, depression, and complex trauma—ensuring that the tools you learn are not only scientifically sound but are also safe, effective, and deeply compassionate for you and your students.
