Dialing Into the Shoulders – Yoga Class with Doug Keller

Although the shoulder is one of our most mobile joints, a lot of us have difficulty with shoulder mobility. A lot of the difficulty comes from lack of coordination between the arm-bone and shoulder blade.

In this live practice, Doug gives an easy, useful, and accessible introduction to the key ideas of his upcoming course with Yogaversity, as applied to the shoulders. Shoulder mobility depends on fascial connections between muscles by which we ‘dial in’ to the shoulders with internal rotations for stability, and ‘dial out’ from the shoulders with greater range of motion using external rotation. It’s all about getting the moving parts freed up and coordinated with some simple movements and principles.

What to expect: This is a well-rounded all-levels practice built upon simple movements and memorable principles for experiencing how yoga explores all the possibilities for freedom of movement in the shoulders!

Suggested props: A belt and a block.
